This weekend we were out with the tent dodging the weather for a break to the San Juan Islands ( the main island ).
We were up around 5pm !! and in a rush to make the 7:45 ferry. Made it with about 30min to spare and got across to the main island in pretty good time to grab some breakfast.
Then we went to the camp site that we had booked, only to find that it was not that great. After a bit of an argument, we got our money back and then headed to another camp site which we know about from a previous visit.
Saturday we went to Roche Harbor and the girls got some Ice Cream. Then back to the camp site where we went on a bike ride and got the fire going. Weather was always looking like it would rain, but never really did. By around 9:30 the girl were in bed…..

On the Sunday we went on a whale watching boat. We ended up finding them by the light house off San Juan Island. They were pretty good, but there were clearly in a hurry to go somewhere, so there was no showing off, breaching, etc, etc. Here are some pictures from "J" pod.
On Monday morning we went to the lighthouse to see if we could spot them again. From speaking to the people at the lighthouse, they gave us information that they were off the mainland, so they would not be back for another 6 hours, so it was time to turn around and head for the ferry.
A pretty cool weekend, and nice to get out of the creature comforts. However, for the family it was nice that daddy decided to shave and take a shower… phew..
